ZodiacFacts

Twitter phenomenon @ZodiacFacts is an account with more than 1.5 million followers that receives frequent retweets by Twitter-obsessed celebs like Rihanna (she is #TeamPisces, in case you didn’t know, and has 28 million Twitter followers) and rapper Nelly (#TeamScorpio, 2.5 million followers). Rather than tweet short daily life forecasts or horoscopes, which is the kind of thing most people associate astrology with, ZodiacFacts instead tweets personality clues and situational info about different signs of the zodiac in a valiant effort to help people apply the characteristics of their signs to their lives. Around the clock, often four or five times each day, ZodiacFacts will make a round through the circle of the zodiac with a themed “fact”:  your zodiac sign’s greatest weaknesses, your zodiac sign in love, your zodiac sign during a confrontation, what your moon sign says about you…the list goes on, and, luckily for us, the tweets don’t stop.

The @ZodiacFacts account was created three years ago by The Zodiac Tweeter (who we will call The ZT from now on) and a friend.

“After the first few days I took over the account, and pretty much from there everything happened — the popularity of the account took off,” The ZT explained to me in an interview conducted over the serenely anonymous internet.

The accuracy and thoughtfulness behind the facts that @ZodiacFacts creates is impressive. There is attention to detail, and the facts are well-researched. For example, you may know the “characteristics” and personality traits of your sun sign (Cancers, for example, are emotional, open, empathetic, needy), but a fact like this still might help you understand your personality better:

When I asked The ZT what their astrology background was, they said they consider themself a beginner.

“I make sure that I do my best to research the information before posting it on Twitter. It usually takes me a couple of hours each day researching on many different topics. I choose to run this account because I enjoy reading about astrology. I know most people think it’s rubbish, and no, I wouldn’t consider myself to be a Messiah of the stars — just a messenger.”

However, like anyone who reaches a specific level of internet fame, The ZT has its share of haters:

Haters

HatersThe ZT recalls a time a couple years ago when the account was hacked and they lost 6,000 followers: “It was a low blow because I worked so hard, and for someone to ruin everything — it hurts.”

But with more than a million followers, @ZodiacFacts seems to have picked itself up from that brush. To the haters, The ZT says, “I think people fear what they don’t know anything about. [Some] people say astrology is rubbish, but yet [they] get their zodiac signs tattooed on them or get upset over [something I post]. My point of view is if you don’t like what’s being posted, why continue to read it and leave negative comments? I don’t wanna be one of those people that just puts out anything. I wanna bring depth to my page. If more people actually took the time to understand astrology, they would have a better understanding.”

To keep an air of mystery, I won’t reveal the identity of the Zodiac Tweeter. But he/she was nice enough to reveal their signs! The person behind @ZodiacFacts is an Aquarius with a rising Gemini and a Virgo moon. You can do your own research from here.

The ZT is not clairvoyant — however, if you’re a Cancer, a Leo, or a Virgo, @ZodiacFacts says you’re going to have a good summer. It’s in the stars.
