The Prince Tribute showcasing members of the Revolution and Wyclef Jean performed at Auditorium Shores on Friday evening, March 17, 2017 — a free SXSW event where fans boogied down and shed some tears to the music of The Purple One.

The show kicked off with a video clip from the soon-to-be released trailer Nothing Can Stop Us Now, a documentary by Mike Kirk on Prince’s rise to stardom. Childhood friends and early bandmates Andre Cymone on bass and Dez Dickerson on guitar were featured prominently in the set and stopped to tell stories of their early days in Minneapolis.

Joining them, but certainly not overshadowing them in the vocal realm, was Wyclef Jean, formerly of the Fugees, who modestly performed congas and guitar while leaving the spotlight on those that helped Prince launch his career. While fans held cell phones high in the air for “Purple Rain,” it was the encore of “1999” that set the family-friendly crowd bouncing off to the exits on that Friday night.
