SuicideGirls Blackheart Burlesque

Performing on Saturday, July 26th at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 is “SuicideGirls: Blackheart Burlesque,” a performance the troupe is touting as the “geek fantasy show.” The show features performances and music, complete with tongue-in-cheek humor and raw erotic sexuality, with striptease performances poking fun at Star Wars, Donnie Darko, Planet of the Apes, “Game of Thrones,” and more.

In the early 2000s, the SuicideGirls Burlesque show crisscrossed North America for five years. The girls entertained thousands of people at sold-out shows, opening for Guns ‘n’ Roses and Courtney Love, and traveling overseas to perform at music festivals in both Europe and Australia.

We took some time to interview co-founder Missy Suicide about the show during Comic-Con, and hope it entices you to attend should you be in town during the convention.

You were once quoted as saying [in regards to your website], “The girls, they had so much more to share than their image. They had so much more to say and to give. We wanted to give them kind of their home on the web.” Did you have the same ambitions and goals when putting together the burlesque show?

Yes! We wanted to give the girls the creative outlet and space to express themselves in a live audience. We also wanted to give the audience and community an opportunity to meet in real life, and feel the energy of the girls and of one another.

What made you decide to work with Manwe Sauls-Addison, and was it an expensive gamble when you first started putting the show together?

We met Manwe when we were working on a tv project and fell in love. He has an amazing energy and we just really hit it off creatively.

It was a big gamble. Creating a show is a pretty big investment initially. Luckily, the crowd was receptive.

What would you say to folks who caught the traveling show and are deciding whether or not to attend the San Diego Comic-Con performance?

The Comic-Con show is going to be all new. We are trying out a bunch of new numbers, new girls, and new themes for Comic-Con — some that have never been seen before, and some that may never be seen again. It will be an amazing show with an amazing crowd. The Comic-Con attendees is exactly our crowd.

Where will the show be held?

House of Blues San Diego. You can get tickets at blackheartburlesque.com or at the House of Blues box office. Or, come by booth 1730 if you are at the Con — meet the girls and get tickets for $23!
