Stubb’s in Austin always hosts the biggest showcases at SXSW, and SXSW 2017 proved to be no exception, with their NPR showcase featuring a slew of up-and-coming acts topped off with a set by Vancouver-based fan favorites The New Pornographers.

Kicking off the show was PWR BTTM, an indie glam band that turned heads the previous year at SXSW 2016 and sparked controversy at this year’s by refusing to play until the festival agreed to amend its artist agreement language that came across too harshly in this ICE raid-happy paradigm we are in. Lizzo played a great evening set to a much larger crowd than the day before at the Scoot Inn with her voice and moves on point. S

ylvan Esso provided a nice electronic interlude in the middle of the set with great lighting to set off the mood. Joey Badass was replaced by Big Thief a Brooklyn-based indie folk group featuring the strumming and words of Adrianne Lenker accompanied by guitarist Buck Meek.

The New Pornographers closed out the show with their north-of-the-border power-pop, getting the crowd geared up for their seventh album Whiteout Conditions, due out in April 2017.
