Since 2007, sisters Gwennie and Lucy Giles have been performing as Dog Party. The duo draws influence from the classic sounds of the Ramones, as well as contemporaries such as Ty Segall, to create their own unique style. Listeners may also notice nods to bands such as Cub and Tiger Trap.

Dog Party’s new album ‘Til You’re Mine sees its release August 5, 2016 via Asian Man Records. In the days leading up to the release, Gwennie and Lucy took the time to answer 20 Questions With Verbicide.

Describe your perfect smoothie.

Lucy: Peanut butter ‘n jelly smoothie.
Gwennie: Apples, mango, limeade, ginger, some sort of sorbet, and some soy milk. Warning:I haven’t put this to the test, but it sounds good to me.

What is your favorite live album?

Did you prefer life prior to the internet and cell phones and social media, or do you think we’re better for it?

We weren’t really alive before the internet. Cell phones, internet, and social media are all pretty cool and definitely come in handy. They obviously have their cons too. Haha, everything in moderation.

How many states have you been to?

California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas*, Oklahoma*, Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Louisiana*, Mississippi*, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia*, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Delaware, New York, Vermont, Hawaii. So that’s 41 states we have been in, and 36 that we’ve played.

*States we haven’t played in but have been to.

Choose but only one: a sweet, slightly salty Gruyère; creamy Camembert; or slow-smoked sharp cheddar, aged three years.

Camembert! We both have attended cheese tastings with our high school French classes.

How has your family influenced your career?

We are sisters so this is easy. Neither of our parents were musicians, but they were and still are extremely supportive of our music.

Lucy: Ty Segall and The Thermals
Gwennie: Shannon and the Clams

Which band or performer would you love to see, but haven’t yet?

Lucy: Jack White and the Descendents
Gwennie: LCD Soundsystem and Green Day

What defunct band or deceased performer would you have loved to have seen, but won’t be able to?

Ramones, The Beatles, The White Stripes, and many, many more.

Which is your favorite fluffy animal: angora bunnies, pomeranian puppies, or fuzzy-wuzzy ducklings?

Puppies!

Did you have a favorite stuffed animal as a child? What was it?

Lucy: A tuffed beaver named Beavy.
Gwennie: A stuffed black-and-white puppy named Gizmo.

Have you ever had a part in a film?

Yes! We are in SLC Punk 2!

Which social media site do you use/like the most? How can people find/follow you?

Facebook was the new MySpace, then Instagram became the new Facebook. We don’t like the direction Instagram is going, but if we had to choose one, Instagram would be our favorite. What is your favorite breakfast cereal?

Lucy: Cheerios and Fruity Pebbles (on special occasions)
Gwennie: Granola, and on special occasions, Cap’n Crunch Crunchberries

How do you take your coffee?

Lucy: Black. Sometimes cream is fun.
Gwennie: Tall iced chai latte with a shot of espresso at Starbucks, AKA “dirty chai.”

What song really hits you in the feels and makes you cry?

Lucy: “She” by Gram Parsons.
Gwennie: “Right Before My Eyes” by Cage the Elephant and “Turn Up” by SWMRS.

Favorite thing about being on tour? Least favorite thing?

Gwennie: My favorite thing is playing every night and seeing the world. My least favorite part is sitting in the van.

What is your biggest phobia?

Lucy: Fish touching me in the water.

Other than your primary artistic medium, what is your next go-to?

Lucy: I paint and spray paint a lot!
Gwennie: I’m a graphic communications major with a concentration in web and digital media, so I’m getting more into graphics.
