Ah, yes, the pride of Montreal. After six albums and more than 11 years since their formation, this inseparable six-piece hardcore band named after the main party street in Montreal prove that they can still knock you off your ass and amaze indeed the very faculty of eyes and ears.

I found that the music in Fire Works was lot lighter and more upbeat compared to Dancing for Decadence (2006), but the energy is not dropped. Judging by the lyrics of most of the songs, vocalist Hugo Mudie is reflecting on how his life has been affected by his full-time dedication to the Sainte Catherines, while continuing to sing in his trademark raspy Quebecois-accented voice. One thing that hasn’t changed are the unnecessarily long song titles, such as “You Guys Wanna Fuckin’ Party After This? No.” and “Headliners Don’t Load (But They Kill Cops).” Now would be a good time to break your piggy bank and buy the other albums if you haven’t already, and also check out their side band, Yesterday’s Ring. It’s very possible that Fire Works will be the Sainte Catherines’ last album.
