ZOMBY – Nothing

NothingAfter releasing an LP, Dedication, earlier this year, British dubstep producer Zomby has returned with another offering, a 12” EP, Nothing.

Zomby’s music is rhythmic and steady, but his creative flow is free-flowing — going wherever it wants to satisfy its short attention span. Dedication found the producer experimenting with almost ambient sounds, but now he’s reverted back to dancier music. Nothing sounds a bit more like the dubstep singles or his ravey debut, Where Were U in ’92?, but still stands alone in Zomby’s constantly evolving repertoire. Songs like “Labyrinth” or “Sens” sound a lot like Aphex Twin with Zomby’s own personal touches.

In its 22 minutes, Nothing changes pace a lot. It feels more like a DJ set than an album, but that’s Zomby’s forte. Even if his releases aren’t the most coherent, it’s interesting to hear him progress, pushing the genre into whatever direction he feels like at the moment.
