“Wet Hot American Summer” Prequel in the Works?

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

The Huffington Post reports that a prequel to the cult classic comedy Wet Hot American Summer is possibly in the works.

The film, released in 2001, was directed and co-written (with Michael Showalter) by David Wain. The film co-starred Wain and Showalter’s “Stella” partner Michael Ian Black, as well as a lengthy list of stars — most of whom, at the time, were not nearly as well-known: Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Christopher Meloni, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, and Molly Shannon.

“Yes, we have been talking about a sequel, prequel, something or other,” Wain told Jeff Goldsmith of the “Q&A Podcast” (via Indiewire). “The prequel would be the same summer…so it would be 40-year-olds playing 16-year-olds. And yeah, we’re in the early stages of thinking about that.”
