Top 15 Best “South Park” Moments

Friday, September 21st, 2012

10. Barbra Streisand vs. Robert Smith (“Mecha-Streisand,” Season 1)

Before Timmy and Jimmy had it out, Barbra Streisand took on Robert Smith of The Cure — as well as Sidney Poitier and Leonard Maltin — in the show’s first season. Mecha-Streisand would return for two episodes in season 14 to wreak havoc and kill Pip.

9. Spankin’ It, Jackin’ It, Smackitty-Smack (“Butterballs,” Season 16)

One of the strengths of “South Park” is its musical numbers. In fact, “Blame Canada,” from the 1999 film South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, while “Uncle Fucka” won an MTV Movie Award for Best Musical Performance. And while the TV series has included many memorable songs — “Let’s Fighting Love,” “Kyle’s Mom Is a Bitch,” and “The Circle of Poo,” for example — writer Trey Parker cranked out his best yet with this recent ridiculous tune.

8. Bathroom! (“Make Love, Not Warcraft,” Season 10)

This clip is notable for several reasons. One, it perfectly captures the obsessive, melodramatic character of Randy Marsh; two, it’s an example of the show’s occasional animation shift from the typical “cardboard cutout” style, made for the sake of mimicry or to make a reference (other such episodes include “Good Times With Weapons” and “Major Boobage”); and three, it features Cartman spraying diarrhea all over his mom, which is easily the most disgusting moment in the show’s history — and that’s saying something.

7. Yay, Blood Orgy! (“Woodland Critter Christmas,” Season 8)

The Christmas season has been lampooned by the creators of “South Park” ever since the beginning. The show was initially based on two shorts created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker in 1992 and 1995, respectively, both entitled “The Spirit of Christmas.” The first featured Jesus vs. Frosty, while the second pitted Jesus against Santa Claus.

Since then, the show has chosen to celebrate the holiday season in a variety of bizarre ways. Who can forget the time a talking piece of shit sprung Kyle from a mental institution, or when Santa and Jesus fought in Baghdad? Seeing Santa have his balls shocked still isn’t quite as jaw-dropping as a seeing a group of Satanic woodland creatures sacrificing a rabbit and having an inter-species orgy in a pool of blood.

6. Putting Pornography Into Context (“The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers,” Season 6)

This send-up of Lord of the Rings from the sixth season is among the show’s all-time best episodes, and it saved its crowning moment for the very end. Thinking the boys had watched “the hottest porno ever made,” the parents try to put sex into context — not realizing only Token and Butters had watched the film.
