Top 10 Politician Cameos in Movies and TV

Willie Brown, Jr. in Jefferson Starship’s “Layin’ It On the Line” Music Video (1984)

At the time this music video was shot, Hon. Willie Brown, Jr. was speaker of the California State Assembly, and from 1996 to 2004 he would serve as the mayor of San Francisco. Did you see those dance moves at 1:31? I’d vote for him too.

Brown also appeared in a number of films, including The Godfather Part III, The Princess Diaries, George of the Jungle, and Hulk. He also appeared in an episode of “Nash Bridges.”

Nancy Reagan, “Diff’rent Strokes” (1983)

On the March 19, 1983 episode, school newspaper reporter Arnold (Gary Coleman) learns that drugs are being sold on school grounds. Of course, anytime this happens, the First Lady of the United States is bound to show up to push her “Just Say No” anti-drug campaign. Fun fact: teen stars Todd Bridges and Dana Plato were high during the shooting of this episode.

Prior to her run as the wife/astrological consultant of President Reagan, she was known as Nancy Davis, a well-known actress of the 1940s and ’50s. Her husband appeared in a few flicks as well.

John McCain, Wedding Crashers (2005)

During the 2008 presidential campaign, John McCain accused Barack Obama of being a “celebrity” — so, naturally, his cameo several years earlier in the major motion picture Wedding Crashers came back to bite him in the ass. Of course, one wouldn’t think that it would be a good idea in the first place for a conservative politician to make an appearance in a film about two wild men who target emotionally fragile single women for sexual conquest.

Rudy Giuliani, “Saturday Night Live” (1997)

Personally, I prefer Kevin Nealon and Chris Farley’s take on Rudy and Andrew Giuliani to the actual Giulianis. However, for a few minutes in 1997, real-life Rudy almost justified his existence during Will Ferrell‘s “Janet Reno’s Dance Party” sketch. He also appeared alongside Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler in Anger Management.

Al Gore, “Futurama” (2000 – 2010)

To date, Vice President Gore (or, at least, his head) has appeared on three episodes of “Futurama,” plus two full-length features, Bender’s Big Score and The Beast With a Billion Backs. Whether “riding the mighty moon worm,” warning Earth about global warming, or playing Dungeons and Dragons with Fry and the Vice Presidential Action Rangers for eternity in an indeterminate dimension in an alternate universe, each of Gore’s appearances on the show have been memorable. He also appears on the Earthican $500 bill. Oh, and his daughter, Kristin Gore, is a writer on the show.
