The Munsters (1964 – 1966)
A comic send-up of the classic Universal Monster movies, “The Munsters” was in its own right a classic. Though eclipsed in popularity by “The Addams Family,” which ran during the same two years (and had famous theme music of its own), “The Munsters” featured a great cast, some excellent hot rods, one of the first TV couples to share a bed (take that, Gomez and Morticia!), and an incredible surf-rock theme song.

Pee-Wee’s Playhouse (1986 – 1990)
The theme for “Pee-Wee’s Playhouse” was written by George McGrath (the voice of Globey and Cowntess), Paul Reubens, and Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo — and was performed by Cyndi Lauper. If that isn’t the greatest creative collaboration in the history of mankind, I don’t know what is.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990 – 1996)
Having worked with Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Duke Ellington, Ray Charles, Celine Dion, Dizzy Gillespie, and about a million other world-famous musicians, it must be weird for Quincy Jones to realize that his most widely-known composition very well may be a theme song for Will Smith.
Cheers (1982 – 1993)
A classic American sitcom, “Cheers” was ranked as the 18th best TV show of all time by TV Guide in 2002. Pretty impressive…except when compared to “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” (the actual title of the theme song), which was ranked in 2011 by Rolling Stone as the number one greatest TV show theme ever. Written by Gary Portnoy and Judy Hart Angelo, the song is enough to make anyone feel a little homesick for Boston — even if you never lived there.
