As previously reported, the lone guest on Tobacco’s new album, Maniac Meat (out May 25th on anticon), is Beck.  A no-brainer collaboration, Beck’s lyrics and vocal treatments alternately spar and coast with Tobacco’s well-known arsenal of vintage synthesizers, noise boxes and voice modulators. The track “Fresh Hex” features Beck’s alliterative, free-associative rap, chopped to bits over Tobacco’s baroque key sequences and whirring effects. Yes, these two working together is as good as it sounds. Listen for yourself.

Tobacco has just completed a pre-release U.S. tour. He’ll play the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on Saturday, April 24th.
