Michael Keaton in "Beetlejuice"

While it’s not Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, it appears that the sequel to the 1988 film Beetlejuice is finally going to happen — with director Tim Burton at the helm.

According to Schmoes Know, which states that the info comes from “a high-ranking studio executive that knows what is going on behind the scenes of everything in Hollywood,” Burton considered dropping out of directing Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children to direct the new Beetlejuice. However, he ultimately shifted his schedule and is now looking to do both films.

Seth Grahame-Smith is writing the script, and Michael Keaton’s return as the title character is “virtually guaranteed.” The sequel is to be a true continuation, taking place 26 years after the events of the first film. (via Schmoes Know, Dread Central)
