Third Eye Blind at SXSW 2013

With all the drunks stumbling around and the big names in town, occasional mayhem is to be expected at SXSW. However, one likely wouldn’t expect the root of such mayhem to be a band that peaked 16 years ago.

Apparently, Third Eye Blind sparked a near-riot at SXSW 2013 by turning their showcase into an arena rock show. Cops shut down the band 35 minutes into their set on Friday night at Pandora Porch.

The venue was not yet full when security stopped letting people in; however, the size of the crowd completely shut down 5th Street, and the adjacent parking structure was used for an arena view. The event, which was anticipated to only bring out 1,000 or so people, turned into one of SXSW’s largest crowds.

The band apologized to the Austin police via Twitter.
