THE WOODEN BIRDS – Two Matchsticks

reviewed by Garrett Lyons | Monday, July 18th, 2011

The Wooden Birds is a veritable supergroup of modern indie rockers featuring former American Analog Set frontman and Broken Social Scene collaborator Andrew Kenny, drummer Sean Haskins, and two members of Matt Pond PA, including Matt Pond himself. The immense talent of this group shines through every chord of Two Matchsticks. The entire album is a folksy romp with beautifully sincere vocals and tremendous musicianship. The album opens with the summery “Folly Club” and keeps a steady groove of perfect folk throughout with “Secrets” being a stunning piece of modern folk. Everything on Two Matchsticks is brilliant and this album should be part of a soundtrack to a long hot summer.
