The Curse of the Selby TigersOriginally published in Verbicide issue #6

Damn, here is a bizarre band if I’ve ever heard one. Garage punk , electric dance pop, and Devo/B52’s influences are abound in the music of the Selby Tigers, who I can only imagine put on an extremely loud, strange, and engaging show. The CD does get a bit tedious despite the dual vocals of husband and wife front persons, Nathan and Arzu, and the fact that you’ve never heard anything like this before. Though not representative of the entire album, my favorite track is the retro-’50s track, “The Prom I Never Had,” which closes out the album with visions of sock-hoppers slow-dancing in your head. If you like dancing, Vegas suits, sarcasm, pencil-thin moustaches, beehive wigs, screaming, crooning, and Minnesota punk rockers, you’ll like the Selby Tigers.
