It’s about goddamned time.

Like me, you very well might have a video cassette of 1991: The Year Punk Broke rotting away in storage next to a copy of Hype! in the basement of your parents’ house. Well, you can finally upgrade: the documentary — which followed Sonic Youth and Nirvana on tour in Europe in 1991 — is coming to DVD.

Slicing Up Eyeballs reports that the special 20th anniversary edition will feature 42 minutes of bonus performances and other off-stage material. The DVD, which also features footage of Dinosaur Jr., Ramones, Babes in Toyland and Gumball, will be released sometime this fall on Universal Music. It will feature commentary by the film’s director, Dave Markey, and Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, as well as rough edits and a photo slideshow.

Also included will be a new 42-minute “bonus movie” called (This is Known As) The Blues Scale, featuring previously unreleased Sonic Youth and Nirvana performances and “plenty of revelatory and rockin’ (and hilarious) never-before-seen off-stage and on-stage material.”

Then again, after watching a few clips on Youtube, I am suddenly wondering if I really give a shit about this.
