SHABAZZ PALACES – Black Up

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kanye West’s next obscure-indie-collaboration features the luducrous stuff coming out of Ishmael Butler’s head. His latest project, known as Shabazz Palaces, shows a lineup of squint-your-face-fantastic beats and a unique style that I haven’t quite found in any other rapper out there. The closest would be from the likes of Kid Cudi, who in the same ballpark, often toys with loops and ambiance. Shabazz however, explodes with character on every track, often riding the line of too much ambiance and too much texture (but rarely does it cross that line). Black Up will no doubt be received with open arms. If you strive to be that sort-of annoying guy who says, “I knew them way before they blew up,” buy this album in its entirety as soon as possible. If you like amazing beats and intelligent lyrics, also, buy this album as soon as possible.
