“Rocko’s Modern Life” to Finally Get DVD Release

Friday, April 8th, 2011

At long last, “Rocko’s Modern Life” is coming to DVD.

Scheduled for a June 21st, 2011 release date, “Rocko’s Modern Life: Season One” will be released by Shout! Factory, an entertainment company that specializes in releasing classic music, film, and TV reissues on DVD and CD.

This will be the first time any seasons of “Rocko’s Modern Life” have appeared on (a non-bootleg) DVD. No special features have been announced, though extras are not usually included on Shout! Factory release.

“Rocko’s Modern Life” ran on Nickelodeon from 1993 to 1996, and featured, among others, the vocal talents of Carlos Alazraqui (“Reno 911,” Happy Feet, the Taco Bell chihuahua) as the wallaby Rocko, and Tom Kenny (“Spongebob Squarepants,” “Mr. Show,” “Mission Hill”) as Rocko’s dull-witted best friend, Heffer Wolfe. “Rocko’s” subversive, bizarre adult humor — tempered by the show’s eponymous mild-mannered main character — was often less obvious than Nickelodeon counterpart, “Ren & Stimpy,” and garnered less attention (and controversy). Fifteen years after the last episode aired, those of us who enjoyed this as kids will likely find plenty beyond the nostalgia factor to enjoy as “grown ups.”
