“Saturday Night Live” Announcer Don Pardo Dies at 96

Don Pardo, the longtime announcer for “Saturday Night Live,” died Monday, August 18, 2014 in Tucson, Arizona. He was 96.

Pardo was with “SNL” from the show’s first episode in October 1975, and performed the introductions for 38 seasons, missing only the seventh season. His run on the show went right through the end of the last season in May, when he performed the introductions on the finale, hosted by Andy Samberg.

Additionally, Pardo was NBC’s staff announcer for more than 60 years. In November 1963, he announced to the country the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He also worked on the original version of Jeopardy! with host Art Fleming, as well as “The Price Is Right,” “Jackpot,” and “Three On A Match.”
