Laura Kennedy, the original bassist and co-founder of post-punk band Bush Tetras, died on Monday, November 14th due to complications from Hepatitis C.
Kennedy was diagnosed with Hepatitis C almost 20 years ago while living and playing music in New York City. She had been living in Minneapolis for the last 12 years with her girlfriend, and after a long wait, she received a liver transplant at the University of Minnesota in 2008.
Bush Tetras were at the heart of the New York no wave and punk scenes in the late 1970s and early 80s. They are best known for their early-’80s dance-punk hit, “Too Many Creeps.”
Kennedy was the focus of many benefit shows, including a Cake Shop show in New York City in 2008. Bush Tetras have been active in recent years, though Kennedy was not involved.
