REGENTS – S/T

reviewed by Josh Diamond | Monday, October 10th, 2011

Regents are a hardcore band with members from up and down the East Coast, all veterans of ’90s hardcore bands like Maximillian Colby, Frodus, Battery, and Men’s Recovery Project, among others.  Like most of their previous bands, Regents plays fairly straightforward hardcore.  Drawing upon their combined years of experience pounding out hardcore songs, this new seven-inch is consistently tight and well-produced.  In just over eight minutes, Regents deliver more intense and highly focused noise than some hardcore bands can muster over a full-length LP.  The song “Fire Your Brain” merits some extra attention as the catchiest tune of the set.  4 Song 7” isn’t a revolutionary release; it’s not going to change the future of hardcore, but it doesn’t really have to.  Coming from masters of the genre, it is simply a viscerally satisfying outburst of energy.
