Recently, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana stopped by for an interview on NPR’s “All Songs Considered.” During their lengthy interview, the band shared memories of recording In Utero and working with engineer Steve Albini, and played several songs from the In Utero 20th Anniversary Edition, which will include a ton of bonus tracks, including “Forgotten Tune,” a previous unheard song.

The interview is available on NPR’s website, either to read or stream. To hear “Forgotten Tune,” stream the interview and scroll to about the 40-minute mark.

The band also allowed NPR to stream the Steve Albini mix of “Heart Shaped Box,” which sounds incredible — more explosive drums, less double-tracking on the vocals, and a distorted guitar solo reminiscent of how the band performed the track on “Saturday Night Live” in 1993.

There is also a bizarre demo version of “All Apologies,” which almost tricks you into thinking it’s an instrumental — but no, there are some vocals in there.

Nirvana’s In Utero 20th Anniversary Edition has a release date of September 24, 2013 — click here for the complete track listing, and click here to watch the director’s cut of the “Heart Shaped Box” music video.
