New Beavis and Butthead? That Kicks Ass

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Rumor has it that Mike Judge is currently developing 30 new episodes of “Beavis and Butthead,” to be renewed by MTV:

Should this come to pass, Judge plans on retaining the show’s original ghetto-tech aesthetic, right down to the faded color palatte. The source also reveals that theĀ Extract director intends on keepingĀ B and B’s format identical to its original sketch-videos-sketch incarnation, but with more contemporary music clips for the cartoon slacker-duo to skewer.

It’s been 13 years since the show went off the air and about 16 years since the height of its popularity — considering how much the popular music landscape has changed in that time, this news strikes me as odd…at least, the fact that MTV would pick it up. What are Beavis and Butthead going to watch? Lady Gaga? At the very least, Judge’s comedic writing has held up through the years (evident from last year’s critically underrated Extract) and if he can produce anything half as funny as the old Beavis and Butthead shorts it will be 10 times better than anything else on MTV.
