Mogwai has never been described as a happy band, and Earth Division does nothing to change that. But what does change is how Mogwai goes about its business, with a collection of brooding instrumental tracks that range from orchestral in the opening “Get to France,” to the prog-rock vibe of “Drunk and Crazy.” The artistry of each song is astounding with every song nearing perfection. The best track is the closer “Does This Always Happen?” — an array of instruments building a chamber orchestra with stunning minimalist piano anchoring the track. This is an incredible EP.
