Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic made a surprise appearance Seattle’s Bumbershoot festival on Monday, September 3, 2012 by joining The Vaselines onstage for their song “Jesus Doesn’t Want Me for a Sunbeam.” As he did on November 18, 1993 during Nirvana’s cover of the same song for “MTV Unplugged,” Novoselic played the accordion.

Novoselic recently interviewed the Vaselines’ Eugene Kelly for Seattle Weekly, and during the conversation, Novoselic revealed he has been playing the accordion frequently: “I’ve actually been playing a lot of accordion. I’m obsessed with it. It’s really crazy. I don’t know what the hell happened to me. I just picked one up one day, and have had to play it every day, all the time. It’s an obsession. But I guess there’s a lot worse obsessions. You know what I mean?”
