Joey Ramone, May 19, 1951 – April 15, 2001

Ten years ago today, Joey Ramone died one month short of his 50th birthday. The following year, Dee-Dee would die of an overdose, and Johnny would die in 2004 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Just like that, within a three-year timespan, three-quarters of the original lineup of one of punk’s greatest bands would be gone, leaving a gaping hole in the music world. Still, the music the Ramones left behind is timeless and as enjoyable as the day the band first stepped onstage in shredded jeans and leather jackets. Doesn’t seem possible that it’s already been 10 years.

Thanks to some detective work, I found the Punkmusic.com Joey Ramone Memorial on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. It’s a fitting tribute, created by Neal Ganslaw a decade ago and written by fans in the immediate aftermath of Joey’s death.
