Isaac Brock Brings Back Ugly Casanova

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Isaac Brock’s 2002 release Sharpen Your Teeth on Sub Pop Records was a sleeper of an album. Released under the name “Ugly Casanova,” the album did not attract nearly the attention given to his other band, Modest Mouse, but gained a slight cult-ish following. The moniker, and distinct musical styling that accompanied it, were retired, and Brock went on to create more radio-friendly rock that just kept getting radio-friendlier.

However, it has been confirmed that Brock is bringing back Ugly Casanova, contributing nine songs to the soundtrack of 180° South, a documentary set in Patagonia from director Chris Malloy. Eight of the tracks are previously unreleased, the lone exception being “Hotcha Girls,” which appeared on Sharpen Your Teeth.

Also contributing tracks to the album are James Mercer of The Shins, Mason Jennings, Love as Laughter, and Jack Johnson.
