Dominique Pruitt is a saucy readheaded singer/songwriter from Los Angeles. Her music has a light, sunshine-tinged rockabilly sound, and she’s got a sexy/smiley pinup girl look to match. She also happens to have a number of nice tattoos, making her a perfect candidate to kick off our ongoing interview series “Inked,” in which we bug artists about their tats.
How old were you when you got your first tattoo? What is it, and what made you decide to get it?
My first tattoo is a tiny treble clef on my right foot. I’d just turned 18, and wanted any excuse to get a tattoo — treble clef for my love of music fit the bill.

How many tattoos do you have, and where is each tattoo located?
I have nine: the treble clef; the initials of my family members on my left inner ankle (another excuse to get a tattoo with no great motive behind it); a type of showgirl headpiece with jewels and feathers on my left calf; gypsies in roses on my left thigh; an “LA” on my left wrist; a small blue bird on my left inner wrist; a pinup girl on my right shoulder; and “Wanda” on my neck. Number nine is a secret!
Of all of your tattoos, which is your favorite tattoo, and why?
My bigger piece: the gypsies, the showgirl piece, and the pinup. They’re bigger and prettier than the others.
What tattoo is the most meaningful to you? Please describe it and what it means to you.
I really don’t have anything too crazy meaningful. I just appreciate each of my pieces as art and a memory — for now at least!
Which piece of ink do you receive the most comments on?
Probably the “Wanda” (for Wanda Jackson) on my neck — because it’s on my neck. Ha!
Do you have a specific artist that you go to to get work done? What was your experience like working with them?
I go to the incredibly talented Dr. Woo at Shamrock Social Club in Hollywood. His work is exceptional. He’s a longtime friend of mine, and he happened to marry one of my best girlfriends, too. My experiences are great, of course!
Do you have any artists that you’d really love to get tattooed by, or anyone’s body art that you really admire?
Although they’re not for me, the hand tapping tattoos are pretty bad ass.
What’s the next tattoo you plan to get?
I have a couple in the pipeline. You’ll have to wait and see what shows up!
Do you regret getting any of the tattoos you have? Have you ever had one removed or covered up by another tattoo?
I don’t regret any of them, but the one that’s a secret was just so poorly done (back in the day by some random artist, not my current guy) that it’s become a joke to myself and friends. It’s small, but I’ll have it fixed up, one day!
A non-tattoo-related question: You’re a singer and songwriter. What have you had cooking recently, and what projects are on the horizon?
So much cooking! Wrapping up my album, working on a great cover song for a killer compilation album, setting up tons of shows, touring soon, taking over the world — the works!
What’s the best way for us to hear more of your music?
