There is certainly a lot of hype surrounding this Danish group of teenagers and their debut CD, with a lot of the blogosphere going crazy for them. Well, in this case, the hype is justified because the band deliver a thrilling first release, one that will probably garner them many justified accolades. They have truly found a sound that is wholly their own.
In a nutshell, they play post-punk with an aggressive hardcore edge, but even that may be simplifying it a little too much. The bass and drums — when they are not doing the hyper-speed four step — sound very much like they could have come off a post-punk record from the ‘80s, but then the band fools with tempos and guitar noise, too, adding extra depth to the sound. They also touch on goth, classic pop, and even black metal.

The 12 songs sprint past you in 24 minutes, making music that is short, sweet, and to the point. There are traces of old school hardcore — weird, primal noise that eschews the modern chugga-chugga breakdown mode that is so popular these days.
“White Rune” sets the template with post-punk beats giving way to noisy guitar breaks and much thrashing about on the instruments. The title track starts out a sprint, but then busts out with some poppy parts toward the end. “Eyes” is energetic and noisy, while “Collapse” and “Count Me In” just put the metal to the pedal. Album closer “You’re Blessed” sums up everything you’ve heard on the record and forms it into one hell of an ending.
As with any band that makes an exciting debut record, it will be quite interesting to see where the band goes from here. Here’s hoping they can keep that frenzied, noisy edge that gives the band a leg up on their competition and makes audiences in their homeland go crazy. Hopefully they won’t over-think their next move — but regardless of where they go from there, they have definitely made one hell of a debut statement. Highly recommended.
