GREAT APES – S/T

Great ApesSan Francisco’s Great Apes tells you everything you need to know in its bio: “Play it fast, play it loud, make it stick.” There’s really no better way to sum up their debut seven-inch. The record’s three songs (“Sam’s Song,” “This Is a Trans World,” and “Detonator”) aren’t really built around crazy tempos, but it’s upbeat, catchy punk. Singer Brian Moss has a gruff voice, but has no problem belting out melodies like Chuck Ragan or The Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon. Riffs and melodies easily get stuck inside your head, and with each successive listen, you can’t help but push the volume up. This is definitely a band to watch.
