GET HELP – The Good Green Earth

There’s little to be said about a decent indie rock. Sure, they might fashion a nice guitar hook here and there or implement an cool instrument, but nevertheless, there’s so many average indie bands out there that it’s tough to be impressed.

In the case of Get Help’s newest album The Good Green Earth, the usual middle-of-the-road sounds of average indie bands is mostly where these guys stay. Save a couple tracks on the album, much is forgettable, ranging from three-minute jam sessions that don’t quite make sense, to lackluster vocal efforts throughout. I feel like I’ve heard this album before — a lot. A few songs do the album some justice, however. The opening track, “ The Opulence Of A Clear Blue Sky,” is a catchy tune with more personality than most of the others. It could easily be the opening song to their live show, with an eccentric jam session near the close that could transfer well into a live performance.

Near the end of the album, the other standout track, “You Should Be Home By Now,” shows a variety in Get Help’s songwriting and their ability to vary the dynamics and mood inside of a song. Minus a handful of tracks, however, The Good Green Earth poses nothing particularly unique,  but at least a couple tunes are solid. I would keep on the lookout for any of Get Help’s future releases. They have potential, but The Good Green Earth doesn’t do much more than add noise to a recently overdone genre.
