Returning for a third year, Float Fest is a unique central Texas music festival that combines a favorite Texan pastime, tubing the river, with state fair-like festivities featuring rides, games, and live music. Despite sweltering temperatures hovering around 100 degrees in the shade, many concertgoers camped out on the spacious river-facing grounds for two days of fun in the sun and nighttime dancing to indie, hip-hop, and EDM.

Saturday’s hip-hop-heavy lineup roster featured Fat Tony, Slim Thug, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Santigold, and Rick Ross, with a side of Holiday Mountain, Future Islands, and Yeasayer bringing the synth-laden grooves.

Sunday saw the crowds slim down as the heat took its toll. Soaking and floating in the San Marcos River was the cure for the relentless heat that day and crowds seemed to linger in the river for longer than the previous day. As the sun began to dip toward the horizon, concertgoers began heading to the grounds to rock out to the sounds of Bleachers and Metric, followed by an all-out dance party that began with pounding beats of Big Gigantic followed by the soulful sexiness of Sunday headliner Chromeo. Concert organizers noted that ticket sales doubled in 2016 from the previous year, alluding to a growth in popularity that will surely expand the festival in 2017.
