Exotic Animals On the Loose in Ohio

Friday, October 21st, 2011

Good news guys! You no longer need to travel to Africa for the authentic Safari experience. AP reports that fences have been left unsecured at a 40-acre exotic animal farm in Zanesville, Ohio, where 48 bears, tigers, cheetas, wolves, giraffes, and camels are said to have escaped after the owner of the farm, Terry Thompson, was found dead as a result of a possible suicide. Since October 18th, 50 law enforcement officials have been patrolling the surrounding area, and have already killed 30 of the 48 escaped animals. But there are still 18 large cats and/or bears that have not been found.

Zanesville sheriff Matt Lutz will not yet say how the farm owner died, but he did explain that there were several large animals near his body when they raided the land, all of which have since been shot and killed.

Zanesville residents and residents of the surrounding towns have been warned to stay indoors, and the Zanesville school district has announced that certain schools will be closed today.

The remaining animals are mostly large cats and bears, and are described as being “mature, very big, and aggressive.” Employees of the Columbus Zoo, located about fifty miles away, have been employed to help catch the wild animals.

Aside from the 30 animals that have already been shot, there have been zero human injuries. All along Interstate 70 are flashing signs that read: “Caution: Exotic Animals.” Straight out of Jumanji. –Christina Drill
