Named for the chaotic and star struck Andy Warhol muse, Edie Sedgwick is back with a new full-length album, and it is as tumultuous, colorful, and vibrant as its namesake. Love Gets Lovelier Every Day marks another impressive release from the DC-based band, and this time around they’re bringing in some of pop culture’s greatest figures.

A more subdued and easygoing addition to an already impressive discography, “Lovelier” shows a more organically growing side of lead singer Justin Moyer. The intensity is still present but in a way that seems less forced. What does this mean? An album that may be a bit grating but that has no façade or pretense, and is oddly addictive.

There are moments of guitar-laden insanity (“See Saw”) and homages to the DC punk scene (“He Composed Lines that Frighten Stanzas”). Anti-love songs (“Natural Born Killers”) are followed by psychedelic rides (“A Trip Inside My Mind”) and nothing sounds the same.

The album comes to a close with a self-indulgent if not utterly enjoyable 12:40 track. “Love Gets Lovelier Everyday Medley” brings in a smattering of genres, channeling R&B, Yo La Tengo, and the folksy vibes of days gone by. It’s a trip down memory lane in a futuristic vehicle.

Edie Sedgwick may have lost the drag, the glitz, and the glitter, but this band is still something else. Bringing a unique and art house type style to everything they do they break boundaries and challenge themselves — and listeners — constantly.
