The Associated Press reports that 89-year-old Grammy Award-winning folk/bluegrass musician Doc Watson is in critical condition. The singer/guitar player is at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina following colon surgery earlier this week.
Watson’s daughter, Nancy, says he fell this past Monday.
Watson is known as a master of the flatpicking style of guitar playing, and he is also the founder of Merlefest, an annual gathering of musicians in Wilkesboro named after his son, who died in a tractor accident in 1985.
