The press release compares this “emo punk pop band” to the likes of The Get Up Kids, Promise Ring, and Alkaline Trio, so immediately I was turned off. Then I start the CD and the first song, “Programme Music,” is an incredible, intricate instrumental. However, the vocals — though nicely harmonized — don’t’ do a thing for me. I don’t know how to describe it any way other than “cheesy.” Cheesy in a Promise Ring-y kind of way. Joe and Andy Chavez, the two guys who sing and play bass and guitar, are also in Miasis, which used to be fronted by Coalesce vocalist Sean Ingram. I’d say stick to that.
