CARY BROTHERS – Who You Are

reviewed by Sean Lambert | Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

carybrothers_whoyouareWe like U2 and aren’t afraid to make it known with our rising guitar work, super breathy vocal,s and proclamations of “halleluiah!” We start out quiet and build, build, build until our manufactured emotion comes spilling through, only to bring it back down again, soft and gentle, ready to start the next tune. Although, we add a bit more piano than those Irish guys, and don’t threaten any potential listeners away with even a hint of sex or the subversive leanings that originally birthed rock ‘n roll. We can get loud, yet are still musically inclined. We’ve got a producer and everything. How about a tune called “The Loneliest Girl In The World” for you? Yeah, she’s super lonely. How lonely? She’s so lonely we had to write a song about her that she’ll never even hear. You see, with loneliness comes isolation, and it’s tough to get new music or generate fresh ideas when you’re isolated. Are we a Christian rock outfit or just really cornball? I’ll reflect on this for awhile looking at aerial shots of highway systems for our album cover and come up with more songs like “Think Awhile,” “The Glass Parade,” and “Precious Lie.”
