Beastie Boys

Yesterday, it was reported that Adam “MCA” Yauch, who died on May 4, 2012, had included in his will a statement that prohibits Beastie Boys songs from being used in advertisements. Today, it has been reported that the Beastie Boys have sued Monster Energy Drink for copyright infringement.

According to Variety, Monster used the group’s music and likeness in various promotional videos without their consent for an event this summer called Ruckus in the Rockies, as well as in a social media campaign. The group is seeking $150,000 in damages for each infringement, citing violations of the Latham Act and New York’s civil rights law in the case’s suit.
