BATHS – Cerulean

Cerulean is the bold first effort of Baths, aka Will Wiesenfeld. At just 21 years old, Wisenfeld has crafted a deep full length album, throwing everything from the ambient kitchen but its sink into the mix, making Cerulean a collage of sound and texture.

Before Baths, Wisenfeld spent years making diverse music under the name Post-Foetus. His travel time and experience shows on Cerulean. Just when songs seem to be overdone, Wisenfeld brings the mix back down with a simple organic piano line to calm things down again.

The songs on Cerulean range all over the modern electronic and ambient music spectrum. The high pitched yelps on “You’re My Excuse to Travel” make Passion Pit come to mind, while the glitch stuttered loops and lo-fi sparkle of “Hall” seem to come from the “chillwave” school of groups like Neon Indian and Washed Out.

There’s so much going on throughout Cerulean, it is tough to describe in one cohesive sentence. The songs have a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it quality and it’s worth listening to over again to get catch each bit.
