On Wednesday, Peter Parker finally lost the battle against evil in issue #700 of “The Amazing Spider-Man.” According to the Hollywood Reporter, Parker was defeated by Dr. Octopus in the final issue of “The Amazing Spider-Man,” which concluded its 50-year run.

However, as Marvel writer Dan Slott explains, Dr. Octopus takes over Spidey after transferring his mind into Parker’s body. In light of the comic series’ most infamous villain now inhabiting Parker’s body, Marvel is replacing the publication of “The Amazing Spider-Man” with a new series: “The Superior Spider-Man.” In this new series, Otto Octavius is affected by Peter’s memories, but is determined to be a better Spider-Man than Peter.
