Friday, June 4th, 2010

Directed by Yony Leyser and produced by Adam Yauch‘s production company Oscilloscope, William S. Burroughs: A Man Within is a new feature-length documentary set to make its debut this month on the national film festival circuit.

Burroughs, who died in 1997, was most famous for his 1959 novel Naked Lunch. Generally remembered as a member of the Beat Generation, he authored more than 20 books (also including Junky, Queer, and the recently-released collaboration with Jack Kerouac, And The Hippos Were Boiled In Their Tanks), and was a gun nut on par with Charlton Heston and Hunter S. Thompson.

The film features interviews with Diane di Prima, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, David Cronenberg, Gus Van Sant, and many more.  Following its release at summer film festivals, the documentary will be released to select theaters this fall, followed by a DVD release, according to IndieWire.
