The first track on this four song EP makes me glad that I do record reviews. “Second of February” sounds like it is right off of Sunny Day Real Estate’s indispensable 1993 release, Diary. It’s post-punk at it’s finest; tight, catchy, and fast, with great vox to boot. However, the next two songs really lose me. Too choppy…they don’t really go anywhere, at least, not for songs that exceed four and five minutes, respectively. The fourth track is cool just for the fact that it was experimentally recorded in a bedroom. Let’s just say Engine Down shows outstanding potential.
