COCOCOMA – Things Are Not All Right

Things Are Not All RightI really kind of wish I could understand any of the vocals on this album. CoCoComa is good at what they’re trying to do: simple, gritty garage-pop tunes. Except I would almost rather if this were an instrumental album because the mumbling vocals just take away from the whole experience.

The tunes are danceable. There’s a bit of organ that adds some flare between the sometimes fancy and often frantic fretwork. The drums are actually catchier than the lyrics on most of these songs, which is impressive. The percussion section brings more to this band than is required by the genre and it’s more than welcome.

I think I would like to see CoCoComa live. There is an energy that can be felt through the speakers while listening to Things Are Not All Right, and that is a good thing that I feel is probably amplified at their live shows where it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary to not be able to hear or understand the vocals.
