Following the release of “Oh Love,” Green Day has released the latest cut from their forthcoming new album, iUno! iDos! iTre! The song is, oddly, a dance track, though at this point it’s hard to be surprised by anything Green Day does — recently, Billie Joe Armstrong signed on to become part of the NBC reality show “The Voice.”
Regarding the origins of “Kill the DJ,” Armstrong recently told Rolling Stone:
“Bassist] Mike [Dirnt] asked me to write a song with a four-on-the-floor rhythm. I’d never done it before. It’s kind of like Sandinista!, Ian Dury’s ‘Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll’ and the Tom Tom Club song ‘Genius of Love.’ We were trying to figure out how to make dance music without turning into a dance band.”
Similar to Sandinista!? Take a listen to “The Magnificent Seven” and let us know if you think Green Day comes close. (via RS)
