Freddie Mercury of Queen to Perform as “Optical Illusion”

Saturday, May 12th, 2012

Freddie Mercury of QueenOn Monday night, May 14, 2012, Freddie Mercury will make an appearance from beyond the grave at a 10th anniversary performance of the Queen musical We Will Rock You. The anniversary performance will be held at London’s Dominion Theatre. Mercury died in 1991, and according to Queen guitarist Brian May, the deceased front man will not be appearing as a hologram — he will be an “optical illusion.”

Speaking to the BBC, May implied that Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg scooped his band by having Tupac appear at Coachella last month.

“It’s a little unfortunate they did that thing with Tupac as we’ve been trying to make Freddie appear on the stage for quite a while. [That technique] is something we’ve looked at ourselves but I think probably for a show that runs eight shows a week it’s not really quite practical.” May stressed the new “effect” is not a hologram, but rather “an optical illusion of sorts.”

“People will come out saying, ‘Did we actually see Freddie?'” (via Spin)

Instead of a video of Freddie Mercury performing, here’s Homer Simpson singing a Queen song.
